3 state parks in 3 days!

The Chrastina family 2006 camping trip was an adventure to remember. Whew! Our relaxing days at the campground didn't last long enough. We were not quite ready to go home, but on the second night the temperatures dropped a little too low at Kerville-Schreiner Park) for the wee ones and we decided to get a cabin about 100 miles further south (near Garner State Park)for the third night before heading home the next day. Bella was a trooper hiking all around, collecting sticks and rocks and whatever else caught her eye. Landry thoroughly enjoyed playing in the dirt with sticks, balls, and especially the cooking pots and spoons. He was so content to stay close by just crawling around the campground area.

A few highlights of our trip were:

Quiet and relaxing campground

Being together with our children (first family vacation-just us 4)

Landry never had to miss a nap!

Bella flying a kite, even though she flew it into two different trees :)

Beautiful hike along the Guadelupe river

Bella saw a real ballerina practicing in the courtyard at Garner State Park

Landry played with several different puppy dogs much to his delight

Nate conversing with random hikers on our walkie-talkie

Landry got to throw rocks in the water for the first time

Fredricksburg pizza kitchen

Things not to be repeated:

putting the rain fly on the tent at 2:30am during a very unexpected rain fall + cold spell (did I mention this was a new tent and we had no idea how to put on the rain fly)

Dinner at C.J.'s Chuckwagon in Leaky

Turning right without knowing how far it really is to Lost Maples

Burning would-be-yummy cinnamon rolls into black ash, inside a makeshift dutch oven because we left them in there for more than 3 minutes (8 to be exact) Posted by Picasa
